Every now and then, I am able to pull out one of my moms old recipes and use it for my happiness. Tonight, it was Cornflake Potatoes. So simple and easy. Microwave potatoes for 7-8 minutes. Peel and wedge potatoes. Melt butter, and coat potato in butter. Crush corn flakes in bag. Coat Potato in crushed corn flakes. Lay on baking sheet. Sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bake at 400* for 20 minutes.

Henry & I aren't too big on totally planning menus, but instead, we plan dinners for the week, and eat those meals as we feel!

So plan for next week:

*Hamburgers (served with chips and veggies, both which we have in our home)
*Stir Fry Chicken & Rice
*Mac Chicken Cacciatore
(Which I found on Tightwads with Triplets! Blog for less than $3 total)
*Fiesta Chicken (Which I found using our Luckies/Grads cook-blog)
*Spaghetti

We'll be out of town Sunday and Monday, visiting family. We always get plenty of left overs from Spaghetti, which we can take from our 2 meals for dinner and use leftovers to make 6 meals. That's 2 nights of work dinners for each of us. I only work 3 days a week, Henry 4 days, so that's half his week and most of mine just from spaghetti.

I'm still up in the air on the Grocery Game. I think I'll try it for a few weeks without, and see if I need to use it. I did find coupons.com where I can clip and print coupons, and there's always the local paper for coupons as well! And last but not least, I've made up 2 lists, 1 of my stockpile, and a 2nd that is my groceries that I NEED next week.

Stockpile (items in BLACK I need) and (items in RED I'll get if on sale):
Shampoo
Conditioner
Paper Towels
Pepsi
Toilet Paper
Deodorant
Cream of Mushroom Soup
Canned Tomatoes
Toothpaste

Sponges
Juice

Groceries:
Hamburger X3
Chicken X2
Bananas
Zuchini
Lettuce
Tomato
Tortilla Chips
Black Beans
Salsa
Cheese

As I get the chance, I'd love to buy some Toaster Strudels, Frozen Pancakes, Brownie Mix, Cake Mix, Muffin Mix. But of course, they'll have to be ON SALE. Those are the little extras that I CAN live without. Of course, as a preggo, I really think that all those are necessary, but my budget-friendly mind says "DON'T DO IT!"

I might head to a couple different stores next week. This weekend I think I'll see if there are any good sales in the town I'm visiting on any of my stockpile stuff. And then I'll head to Aldi for pasta, spaghetti sauce, etc. Then my regular grocer for my meat/veggies.

That's all for tonight!

Tonight's Dinner

Most nights we have left overs, which is great since we both work nights and eat at work. We always take left overs to work. However, Hungry Mommy had a second dinner tonight, and they're all gone :) No fear, left overs in the fridge from the enchiladas we had a few nights ago!

Porcupine Balls (Total= $5.38)
Kroger Brand Rice-A-Roni ($0.79)
Hamburger ( $3.59)
Cream of Mushroom Soup ($1.00)

We also enjoyed some frozen corn (which we bought in bulk 4 lbs for $12.00 and we get about 24 meals out of it, so let's say $.50 tonight) and a frozen steamed veggie pack, which I bought for $2.00 and stored in my deep freezer.
That takes tonight's dinner total to roughly $7.58 for 3 dinners!

We don't often eat lunch, and 2nd dinner is always left overs. If we continue to do this, we'll keep seeing our grocery bill shrinking. The best part of this impromptu meal? I didn't buy anything today, I just pulled it off my shelves/out of my freezer!

So tonight's dinner made me feel fantastic! It tasted great, and I got to keep it under $10.

I'll see you tomorrow night!

Stockpiles

As we continue on, we're going to keep our grocery bill to $50/week. That'll involve lots of sale surfing, and buying things in bulk, and when we need them.

Stockpiles:
Paper Towels
Toilet Paper
Toiletries (Toothpaste, Shampoo/Conditioner)
Water
Soda
Noodles
Canned goods (Tomatoes, Soups, Vegetables, Pasta Sauce)
Rice
Bottled Juice
Mac & Cheese
Meat (Thanks to my deep freezer)
Dinner Veggies
Cereals (Hot & Cold)
Dried Fruits
Vegetable Oils/Pam
Crackers

Needs:
Dairy (Milk, Cheese, Yogurt)
Fruits
Vegetables
Breads

Wow! The list of stockpiles could keep going on for near about forever... Most everything is a stockpile, with the exception of perishables. I think this next week I will probably spend near about my $100 ($50-groceries and $50-toiletries) trying to stockpile + buy groceries for the week.

Our Plan

At four months pregnant, and planning a move soon after the birth, I thought it best to plan things out, and work on being more frugal. It can be done. Everything was discussed with Henry, and he's all for it. Someday, we'll be able to work things out and do as we please, but with a baby on the way, time to tighten our belts!

Our goal is to cut costs where we can, and keep saving money! Plain and simple.

*We don't want to owe anything on our 1 credit card at the end of the month. Pay off what we spend.

*We're going to use Henry's discounts where we can (e.g. Discount on cell phone bills) This is because I realize we can't live without our cell phones- ok, I can't live without mine, nor can I go to a cheaper plan. It won't happen, and I'm not going to suffer!

*Live more within our means. This means cutting out all those extras we're so fond of. (For example, lately we've watched plenty of movies on TV, but we're just not using as much of our Netflix, so we're going from $29.99/month to the $13.99/month plan! Voila!!! I've just saved $13.00 a month!)

* Grocery goal: $50/week and $50/month in toiletries. We're using many different plans to do this. I KNOW it can be done. Examples of this are numerous, and I know I can make it happen. I'm using the stockpile vs. need method. Those items I can buy in bulk and save, I'll be glad to do so. My next post will give my list of stockpile vs. need!

* Cutting down on our little trips out. We're big on going out to eat. If we only go out every 2 weeks, we'll be cutting down on about 3 nights a week, and we'll be doing just great!
